Musings on the Black Sun

(This was written with my Buddhist community in mind, but I think the issues could apply to any spiritual community)

Maybe there is nothing to 'do' that works very well.  Enlightenment is an accident, yet practice makes one more accident-prone.

I'm not going to achieve full enlightenment in this lifetime,  so I've been taking whatever good seeds I find and planting them deep in myself and my loved ones. I guess that's practice . Plant them in your head heart and belly. If they grow to political action, fine.  But anything that doesn't grow from good seeds is merely compost for the good seeds planted if we're lucky. 

The Black Sun will nurture these seeds, because the White Sun is being scrambled and co-opted, digitalized and Enhanced with Dazzle, drizzled with de-funked Virtual Urine by passing Big Dogs. Split into a million ghosts that seduce and call and moan. The media is the message.  Be. At Any Cost.

But they can't get to the Black Sun, since it doesn't 'exist'. Yet it surely does. I can feel it, and it is a refuge when manifestation, the White Sun, is fucked, deranged. To me, the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya in Colorado radiates the power of the Black Sun through a 'stained glass', real pretty White Sun.  Cool.  Enjoy the pretty colors, but if you're lucky, you're unware you're getting a dose of Poison, the Black Sun. (The mandala can't live off a White Sun forever, but it will sustain well for a while- and it needed the White Sun to gather Harvest, so we have the strength to go back Down. ( I hadn't thought of Mipham Rinpoche as the White Sun until now)

The Nazi's tried to use the Black Sun for ego.  Idiots. In fact, it used to be called the Devil. In the Mayan tradition, the Black Sun is the Earth Father- the active expression of the Feminine.

Sounds a lot like the Rigden King, no?  Trungpa Rinpoche's seal was a Scorpion. Scorpions are instinctual, dark; they make/transmute poison, they work with poison, destruction. This Poison gives life, because it transmutes into blessing's manifestations- it blessing itself, but that journey requires sacrifice- one must go down and be baked/destroyed/transmuted by the Black Sun. (BTW, the Scorpion is the symbol of Scorpio in astrology- the energy of death, rebirth, and transmutation, nuclear power, the atom bomb, the Power of Darkness, or NonBeing, the Instinctual the living source of all Being.)

It's natural to want to hang around the White Sun- it's why they put Disneyland in Florida, obviously, not freakin' Lapland or the misty mid-regions of Wier .  But the White Sun's getting a bit crowded these days, we're getting all ready to act on these emergencies, more doing.  Which is what's causing Global Warming. (?!).  In fear we all stampede to the sunny side of the ship, for the comfort of Light, so we can see what we're doing, need to do, what's coming- and we get dumped overboard onto the White Sun, which is great- from a warming distance in the relative Dark.

But really, we don't want to get too close to this Sun, or to the Black Sun either, until we have enough trust in gravity's pull/natural goodness/Eros that we know we'll be destroyed as we're being spit back up as the Loop runs 'round, yet that destruction itself is what will preserve the Good Seeds. Like in the forests where only fire will cause the forest to survive, make the seeds grow in the soil. That loop grows stronger the closer our orbit takes us to both Suns, and that loop is then recognized as.......................

A circle.  A triangle.  A rose bush full of thorns. The Middle Way (not just buddhism). The Earth and the stars at night. The people we love and all we hold precious. The people we hate, and all the things we're most afraid of.  Monsters, angels, aliens, and Stacey, my older sister who live's in Washington and misses 'Westwing'.
